History

Pinglestone Estate, the home of Louis Pommery, took root in 2017. Building on over two centuries of history and savoir-faire, Maison Pommery became the first Champagne House to produce sparkling wine in England, selecting premium parcels of land to plant vines on the extraordinary Hampshire chalk downlands.

35-hectares of enchanting vineyards are planted on an incredible 360° compass, overlooking the beautiful South Downs National Park, and the confluence of the River Itchen and the chalk streams of the Arle in Alresford.

Farming Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris, we meticulously grow every grape that goes into our blends. Regenerative farming practices are implemented, all whilst championing local biodiversity and sustainability.

Pinglestone Barn
The Heart of the Estate

At the heart of Pinglestone Estate stands Pinglestone Barn, a beautiful oak-framed building that has watched over this Hampshire landscape for centuries. Surrounded by rolling vineyards, ancient woodland and the crystal-clear chalk streams of the River Arle, it is a place where history and hospitality naturally come together.

The estate itself has a rich agricultural heritage. The surrounding area, known as Fobdown, has been home to people for thousands of years, with evidence of Neolithic settlements, Roman occupation and the remains of a Roman villa discovered nearby. Farming has shaped this landscape for generations, and Pinglestone continues that tradition today through its vineyards and regenerative approach to land stewardship.

The Grade II listed barn, dating from the late 17th century, has been carefully preserved and thoughtfully restored, retaining its original timber frame and character while becoming a welcoming gathering place once again.

Today, Pinglestone Barn forms the heart of the Louis Pommery England visitor experience. It is here that guests gather following a walk through the vineyards to enjoy guided tastings overlooking the very vines from which the wines are made. Throughout the year, the barn also hosts private celebrations, events and gatherings, remaining true to its agricultural roots whilst embracing a new chapter in the story of Pinglestone Estate.

Our Winery

Our bespoke on-site winery, located a mere 200m from the vineyard, allows for seamless cohesion between viticulture and winemaking, as our hand-picked premium grapes are carefully accompanied on the next phase of their journey.

Driven by curiosity and informed by intuition, our approach to winemaking is one of guidance and attention rather than interference and intervention.

Temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks enable us to let the grapes speak for themselves, to capture clarity of site and express the elegance and finesse derived from our chalk soils and terroir.

Sensory assessment is the qualitative lens through which all winemaking decisions are taken, with creativity and experimentation being cherished along the way, as we seek to celebrate provenance, purity and precision.

By handling each parcel individually, our understanding of Pinglestone is continually refined by the learnings of each season. The unique pockets of personality across the vineyard are kept separate in the winery and afforded the space to express themselves fully. This facilitates the crafting of a portfolio that can encompass both the revealing of specific identities through single parcel cuvées as well as weaving together the textured threads of the whole vineyard tapestry, all with the intention of connecting to place and showcasing a true reflection of our wonderful single estate.
